Thiruppullani

Here are some key points about the history and special features of the Thiruppullani:

Adi Jagannatha Perumal Temple - Thirupullani:

Located in Thiruppullani, a village on the outskirts of Ramanathapuram in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is the Adi Jagannatha Temple, a Hindu temple devoted to the Hindu god Vishnu.
One of Lord Vishnu's 108 Divya Desam temples, it is also referred to as Thirupullani Temple. Because Rama rested there on a grass sofa, it is also known as Dharbasayanam. This site is also known as Ratnaharam, Adhisethu, Pularanyam, and Thiruvadanai.

Legend of Sri Adi Jagannatha Perumal Temple:

The Sri Adi Jagannatha Perumal Temple is shrouded in numerous stories. In one version, Lord Rama asked Lord Samudra Raja, the God of the Ocean, to open a route across the ocean to reach Lanka so he could battle the demon Ravana, who had abducted Goddess Sita. It is thought that Lord Rama offered prayers while lying on Dharba Sayanam, also known as Kusa grass. Subsequently, after the water had become calm and soft, Lord Samudraraja had begged the Lord to construct a bridge connecting Lanka.

Another tale states that Lord Rama met Pulla Maharshi here, behind a peepal tree. Before departing for Lanka, it is stated that Lord Rama offered prayers to Sri Adi Jagannatha Perumal here. Lord Rama was then given a bow by Adi Jagannatha Perumal, which he used to defeat the monster Ravana.

The name Thiruppullani comes from the belief that Rama slept with a pillow made of grass, called 'pul' in Tamil (thalai annai). The temple was built in the Cholan architectural style and is revered in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, an early mediaeval Tamil canon of the saints of Alvar, which dates from the sixth to the ninth century CE. This particular Divya Desam is one of the 108 that are devoted to Vishnu, who is revered as Adi Jagannatha and his spouse Lakshmi as Padmasini.
